Why
we
do
this
We
are dedicated to
growing pinot noir and Chardonnay that reflect our site. And to making
wines that contain the essence of our vineyard. This is what we do. But
it isn’t always easy - we are at the mercy of the weather for our
livelihood. We pay taxes, market our crop, repair the tractor, fix the
pump on the well, replace posts in the trellis, move the boulders that
seem to float to the surface. But every day we get to spend among the
vines - tying canes, positioning shoots, or just counting clusters -
makes up for the other stuff.
Being a farmer, working the soil, is spiritually rewarding. Being a
farmer and growing something that has almost magical properties - like
pinot noir - makes being a farmer special. Walking the rows in the
morning and seeing the dew on the vines, breathing the fresh, clean
air, looking out over the rolling landscape, watching the wildlife and
perhaps tasting a few grapes to test for ripeness ... well, that is why
we chose to do this. Each vintage is unique. Watching the rhythm of the
vineyard as the seasons change is extraordinary.
Lia
When we go to the vineyard with Lia, it feels almost like a
holiday.
She is the reason we “put down roots” after more than a decade of
living out of suitcases. Lia loves going to the farm. “Dig, dig, dig!”
